Case Studies |
Foxhill Barn is part of Great Todber Farm, which has been worked by the Moorhouse family for generations and was once a dairy farm. After the foot and mouth epidemic of 2001 Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Moorhouse had to re-evaluate what the farm actually meant. He proposed to utilise the expertise within the family. His son Peter and his wife are teachers who taught English in Japan. During this time they had identified a niche market for foreign language student attending residential schools within the UK.

Accomodation at Foxhill Homestay They proposed to convert a large traditionally built stone barn into a homestay language school for accommodation and tuition for foreign students. Lancashire Rural Futures was able to help them through this process by identifying grant sources, applying for the grants, writing the business plan and planning.
Great Todber Farm Part of the niche marketing for the language school will be based around the family farm image and the rural location in which it is set. Apart from the business phase the project also had an environmental aspect as Mr. Herbert Moorhouse agreed to a substantial new woodland planting to complement the new business venture as well as adding to the landscape qualities of the area. |
