Growing with Nature is a vegetable box scheme based at Bradshaw Lane Nursery in Pilling.
This multiple award winning business has been at the forefront of the Organic movement and driving change in agricultural provenance and delivery for many years. Established as a partnership in 1991 as the second UK boxed/bagged delivery service for organic vegetables, it is now a limited company and the longest running boxed scheme in the UK. Vegetables are grown on the holding at Pilling and sourced from 4 other local Lancashire growers. They are delivered weekly to the doorsteps of 500+ customers using the company’s vehicles and through two smaller franchised delivery operations. The business is built on both organic and firm environmental beliefs about the nature of the food we should eat and the impact on the environment. E.g. In an environmental audit carried out by John Moores University cabbages from this business travelled 2.8 “food miles” to the end customer compared to supermarket cabbages, which though UK sourced had travelled 400 miles.
The business has won many awards including: the Soil Association Organic Standard (Loraine Award 1996), the Best Horticultural Producer (Organic Food Awards 1999), the Soil Association Organic Food Award 2004 and the Lancashire Business Environment Award 2004.
