With the summer season soon to be upon us what better way to enjoy the warm weather and long evenings than to have a barbeque? And what better food to serve than outdoor reared pork and sausages?
Up on the hills at Lowgill in the heart of the Forest of Bowland, Ben and Tony Holland rear their pigs and sell products directly to the public at farmers markets. Trading as Bowland Outdoor Reared Pork, the Hollands offer a wide product range including dry cured bacon and gammon, pork sausages, burgers and fresh pork joints. Locally sourced beef and lamb is also available to buy from this business. Quality can be assured when purchasing meat from the Hollands. In 2003 the business won Northwest Producer of the year prizes for the best pork and in 2004 for the best sausages. Not only this, but with traceability of food becoming increasingly important to consumers, the prospect of being able to pinpoint exactly where our food has come from is of great benefit. There is also another service offered by the Hollands: hog roasts and fully catered barbeques can be hired for private parties and events and of course it is the Bowland Outdoor Reared Pork that will be served!
